Out of The Darkness Walk
SAVE LIVES AND BRING HOPE
Native communities experience higher higher rates of suicide compared to all other racial and ethnic groups in the U.S. For Native youth ages 10 to 24, suicide is the second leading cause of death. There is something that you can do to help improve the journey for the next seven generations.
WALK
The Out of the Darkness Walk gives people the courage to open up about their own connections to the cause, and a platform to create a culture that’s smarter about mental health. Friends, family members, neighbors and coworkers walk side-by-side, supporting each other and in memory of those we’ve lost. Donations are encouraged but not mandatory.
VISION
The mission of the Native Connections Prevention Team is to reduce substance use and suicide risk among Seneca Nation youth and families through the creation of community-wide and culturally relevant programming that collaborates with formal and informal systems and resources.
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s Out of the Darkness Walk is a great way for us to band together and comfort those in our community who have lost loved ones from suicide, educate the community to recognize the signs for themselves and others and encourage them to get help and reduce this staggering rate overall.
